Piyakaset Suksathan

Dr Piyakaset Suksathan, a taxonomist, horticulturist, and currently the Director of the Department of Botanical Garden Development at the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden (QSBG) in Chiang Mai, has been studying various Thai native plants since 1995. In 2005 he obtained his PhD from the Botanical Institute, Department of Systematic Botany, Aarhus University, Denmark. He joined the Flora of Thailand project as a contributor of Marantaceae, Geraniaceae, Balsaminaceae, Parnassioideae and many genera in Zingiberaceae before joining the editorial board of the project in 2017. He is the author of many taxonomic articles, including many newly described taxa, especially of species of Impatiens. His contribution to Thai balsams has also been recognised by having the species Impatiens suksathanii named in his honour.
