Dr Saroj Ruchisansakun started his career as a taxonomist with a BSc degree from Mahidol University, during which he studied the diversity of flowering plants in Kanchanaburi province, Thailand, under the supervision of Dr Thaya Jenjittikul. In 2010 his journey with Impatiens began when he studied the evolution of Balsaminaceae for his MSc at Mahidol University, supervised by Dr Piyakaset Suksathan, Dr Pramote Triboun and Jiranan Techaprasarn. The balsams’ mysteries led him to continue searching for these plants in Myanmar during his PhD at Leiden University, The Netherlands. Publications resulting from his studies include a Taxonomic Revision of Balsaminaceae in Myanmar, Pollination Biology of Impatiens in Thailand, and the evolution of Balsaminaceae in SE Asia. After finishing his PhD, he returned to Thailand and continues his research on Thai balsams.
