Chinese Kudat Guide Book Launched The Chinese version of the Sabah
Colour Guide focussing on Kudat was released on 7th July 2003. This
comes four months after the official launch of the English version in March 2003
by Datuk Chong Kah Kiat.
In his comments at the book release, Datuk
Chong, who is Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, expressed his
immense satisfaction that the guidebook will be an invaluable asset to market
Sabah's major tourism attractions to Chinese-speaking markets such as China,
Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition to providing interesting and practical
information on Kudat, the Chinese version of this book also comes with ten
additional coloured photos depicting the historical status of Kudat as the first
capital of North Borneo (Sabah) and entry point of early Chinese immigrants to
the state in the late 1880s. Traditional Chinese farmhouses, the oldest street
and schools, which provide a unique insight into Kudat's early development, are
beautifully illustrated through these images.
The Sabah
Colour Guide, a series of small books featuring specific tourism
destinations in Sabah, is a follow up of the highly successful Discovering
Sabah coffee table book published in 2001. "Kudat is the first title to
be published in this series. Other titles to be released soon are Sandakan, Kota
Kinabalu, Kinabatangan, Turtle Islands Park, and the Kota Kinabalu Bird
Sanctuary", according to publisher Datuk C.L. Chan of Natural History
Publications (Borneo). The text of the Kudat book was written by well-known
travel writer Wendy Hutton and translated by Chin Yen Sang.
